Floral Watercolor Workshop

Flower watercolor class. Please join us to celebrate the peak of the flower season at the flower farm. Learn about the basics of watercolor painting and just have a lot of fun getting creative in the fresh air by the Animas river. If you would like to purchase a ticket please CLICK HERE. The cost is $70 per person.

I will bring an assortment of flowers from the farm and you can fill your own vase or take home a large mason jar of beautiful flowers.

We will go over a simple, introductory 4 step technique for creating watercolor paintings, with a focus on flowers, but which works great for all watercolor subjects. This class is suited for beginners and experienced people alike, everyone will receive individual attention (or I will leave you alone if you just want to paint).

Below is a list of things to bring
The Art Supply House in the Town Plaza offers a 20% discount on the supplies.

-Paper- I recommend 'Hot Press Finish' watercolor paper, but any watercolor paper is awesome.
-There are two kinds of paints I recommend and have had great success with. The least expensive of the two that I love is Koi Water Colors. These great and affordable paints come dry or in tubes, but they are vibrant and a good choice. If you are looking for a more professional vibe I highly recommend Turner Artists Water Color. I purchased a set three years ago and am still using it. These are tubes of paint and the colors are super bright and extraordinarily vibrant. You can try mine out if you are not sure.

-Princeton watercolor brushes are fantastic (sold at The Art Supply House). Do not waste your money on cheap brushes. They will fall apart really quickly and fray so they end up making random marks on your art. You will need some small ones for details (think a pencil point) and some medium sized ones. I like to have both pointed and square edges.

-A sharp pencil or two and eraser. Kneaded erasers are my favorite.
-A palette. I often use a white Tupperware lid or a white plate.
-Some wine? White Claw? Cold beer?
I will have tables, easels, a technique guide, flowers to paint from, snacks, some cold drinks, and a really beautiful place to paint.
