Scabiosa

Flower of the Day: Scabiosa (Scabiosus)

The name of this flower is pretty cool. I mean… it really could be a spell that Hermione casts on old Voldemort to forever be covered in scabs. But that’s not too sexy. The name is derived from its old career as a means to heal Scabies in folk medicine. Also… not too sexy. But it is commonly referred to as Pincushion flowers. And they are wonderful, beautiful little creatures available in bulk here at Rainbow Springs! They are a type of Honeysuckle and are oh so sweet as filler in a bouquet or all on their own. In folklore they can be a symbol of pure love or unfortunate love. Let us skip over the latter and celebrate any symbol of pure love right now… because what does the world need? That’s right… love (and Pincushion flowers)!! These sweet babies are not just attractive to us… the bees and the birds and the moths and everything else is so drawn to them. Even in Mongolia… where they are actually the national flower! One of the best things about them is that they are really aesthetically pleasing from bud to seed pod. There is no ugly phase. Even in death they look like the loveliest little colorful pineapples! We have them in white with a really cool little bit of green to them, a vibrant fuchsia pink, and a deep burgundy with baby pink speckles. You really cannot go wrong with them. Add them into any bouquet or order and we’ll wrap them and their super long, elegant stems up for you… today! #pincushion #scabiosa #rainbowspringsflowerfarm #floweroftheday #instaflowerfarm #womeninfarming #womeninsmallbusiness #highdesert #flowerfarm #thanksforyoursupport #wegrowjoy #letsgrow #flowersequallove #grownwithlove #buylocal #wedeliverhappiness #coloradoflowerfarmer but also #welovenewmexico #coloradoweddings #newmexicoweddings #letsdothis
