Nigella
Flower of the day: Nigella (also called Devil-in-a-Bush, Love-in-a-Mist), they are a member of the Buttercup family (oh hey, what’s up? ;)). Ummm… just wow with these ones. They are stunning little fairy aliens and we are loving and learning and perfecting as we go! Just the name/s alone are amazing enough… but the flowers are exquisite. And from my research they are seriously industrious! The seeds are tasty, peppery little things with 1,000 different names but most commonly black Cumin. They are regularly used in South Asian, Ethiopian, Middle Eastern, and Polish cuisine. Also they have been little powerhouses for centuries in traditional medicine. The dried seed pods are useful for a number of digestion issues as well as to restore sense of smell (uhh, covid peeps, take note!) and repel insects, similar to mothballs. The list goes on and on! They are anti: inflammatory, bacterial, fungal, cancer, viral, and histamine! Black Cumin is common in naturopathy for help with skin diseases, muscle pain, diabetes, asthma, and to counter the negative effects of radiotherapy. Like I said, WOW. We are simply enjoying their amazing, fairy like beauty in our bouquets and hoop houses!
